When I was 7 years old, my father bought me a package of stick-on, glow in the dark stars. We followed the guide, and recreated the most noticeable constellations of the Milky Way on my walls. For a child in the suburbs of Toronto, it was the closest thing I was going to get to actually seeing the stars at night. Since then, I must admit that the stars have fascinated me; not so much the physics of it all, but the cartography, the cosmography, the myth and legend associated with humans' natural inclination to look up and interpret what they see.

Cosmologies is inspired by this childish wonder, and my love of languages. It marries my interest in calligraphy with my curiosity about the names and systems peoples around the world apply to the stars and the planets, and how they make sense of the world around them.

A bit about the artist.

Oh, hello there! I'm Michael, the

creator of Chubby Kitten (and the

various other things that you might

find on this website). I grew up in

Canada, but I've lived in a few

different places before ending up

in London. Most of my time is spent

doing serious things, usually with

books and stuff like that. In my

spare time, I bring life to neurotic,

fluffy, funny, and portly little animals

who jet around the world. My

current project is a full-length

comic called How to Have a

Breakdown and See 12 Countries in

6 Weeks!
